Good evening Tony,

You would be fine using a canvas or plastic cover draped over the boat. That way any trapped water would have an escape route. However, you might consider going to a local canvas shop or sailmaker and have them make a custom cover for your boat. That is what I am doing. It will be made out of a new generation canvas that is waterproof, and yet will breathe enough to let out trapped moisture. My boat lives on top of my vehicle a good bit of the time, so I want a cover that can be zipped on and off, and it will also have room for my paddles.

For colors I recommend blue. It is the best UV protective and UV resistant color. Below is a photo I've posted before, but is the canvas cover for my dinghy, just to show you how a good seamstress (or seamster) can make a cover to fit exactly to the curvature of your boat. If I had it all to do again, however, I would not have chosen red, because red is the least UV resistant color. I guess it's because it is on the other end of the spectrum. Nonetheless, this cover is well over six months old and still has great color to it. This boat stays in a slip in the sun all day. The new canvasses have UV protectant.

For reference, the below cover cost about $500, but is much more complex than a kayak cover would be. I figure $200 would get you one custom made. Maybe even a name embroideried on it?

Good luck,

Malcolm
