We did it!!!
We being my epoxy dotted dalmation and I. After setting up shop at the campsite in Cape Cod last week I installed the bulkheads, carved the seat, installed the footbraces and backband, faired out the seam tape (I joined the hull and deck two nights before I left)and saved one of our fellow boat builders nephews(but that is another story)the Night Heron got wet. I was very impressed with it's stability. Going from a 12' 27" wide Wilderness Systems to a 18' 20" wide Night Heron I expected to spend most of my first few hours practicing wet exits and reentries. However this was not the case; and other than one low brace she was very comfortable. Leans and recovers easily. I have a lot of technique to learn including a good roll (not possible in the old "barge")but I am a quick study. I still have plenty of work ahead to outfit the deck, final fill coat, sand etc. etc. etc.. Thank you all for the help and if any of you come to Connecticut or live here lets go play! I will post some pictures when I have some time (and figure out how) now I have to tend to a weeks worth of messages and emails; the first day back from vacation is a rough one. At least it is pouring out so I do not feel bad about the boat sitting on the roof rack. By the way Rob Macks flush magnet hatchs passed the 85 mph wind test. I am not worried about them releasing while paddling.
