: Dave,

: Do you have a brand/model no. for the 12" plane ?
: I have an electric B&D myself, but the ones you are referring to must have
: some sort of guide/rails/auto-feeder to ensure good results ?

: Mine is just a plain hand-held device without any acessories, and not very
: suitable for this purpose, i'm afraid.

: I'm currently negotiating (with the wife) purchase of a rather pricey AEG
: thickness plane to about $350. The DeWalt is about $900 (i live in
: Denmark, so i'll have to pass on your offer :-).

: The Wengé is about Mahogany-hard, so it should be just the same to plane and
: sand.

: Jesper

Jesper,
I use a Delta 12 1/2" portable planer. I think I paid under $300 for it a couple of years ago. They are fairly popular and the manufacturers upgrade them frequently so last years model can sometimes be found at a reasonable price. It has an automatic feed, manual thickness setting. I wouldn't let this hold up my construction. If you use the thicker strips you will just have a bit more plane, scrape and sand. The only free advise I would give is to not mix the thick and thin; use them seperately. Too bad you can't drop by and use my planer but I think the carfare would be excessive.
Regards, Dave
