I remember a post from a couple of years ago where Paul G. Jacobson discussed making a jig to mount a hand-held electric plane so it can be used as a simple thickness planer. I spend a few minutes searching the archives and couldn't find the post. Here's what I recall but if you want to try it, don't trust my memory - try some searches and find the original

You would use four short strips the desired thickness and glue them onto something flat so that one would be at each corner of the plane, making sure the blades are free to move. Then use bungees to strap the plane to the jig - this would allow some vertical movement.

The jig holds the plan at the right height and with some care it should work.
