: Hi Jesper

: I remember a post from a couple of years ago where Paul G. Jacobson discussed
: making a jig to mount a hand-held electric plane so it can be used as a
: simple thickness planer. I spend a few minutes searching the archives and
: couldn't find the post. Here's what I recall but if you want to try it,
: don't trust my memory - try some searches and find the original :)

: You would use four short strips the desired thickness and glue them onto
: something flat so that one would be at each corner of the plane, making
: sure the blades are free to move. Then use bungees to strap the plane to
: the jig - this would allow some vertical movement.

: The jig holds the plan at the right height and with some care it should work.

Peter,

I have already been down that path : the result is ok, but the strip tends to "oscillate" (i have no better words for it) between the knife of the plane and the "solid board" below it, creating a somewhat uneven surface. My byest guess is that you need some kind of spring loaded rubber rollers to keep the strip in place just before and after the plane, to get a good result.
My dad, who's been a carpenter for 25 years, says this is a common problem.

However, if i decide to do this, i get strips of a uniform thickness, and, since i already planed one side before ripping, i could just use the uneven surface as the inside.

Thanks,

Jesper
