: Does anyone have a picture of a Pygmy hatch that they have installed, the lip
: and inner workings of the thing? I am about to cut into the deck of my
: Arctic Tern 17' to put in the hatches. I will then do the inner shear seam
: with epoxy and tape as was recommended by someone awhile back. Sounded
: like good advice since I will be able to reach into the boat further and
: with less trouble. I can see the light now, hopefully I will be out
: paddling soon; the water is flat and the wind is not an issue right now.
I don't have any pics, maybe I can take some if you need em. Your plan is good. Don't fit the flanges til all inside work, including the bulkheads, is done, since flanges of course narrow the opening. I also did end-up end pours.
I do wish I had located the forward hatch just a bit further aft so that its opening could be a little wider -- both for packing, and for working on the @#%*& forward bulkhead.
Once you install flanges, make sure they're sanded and epoxied very smooth, and don't forget to put something over the strap bolt shafts (acorn nuts, rubber nubs, plastic tubing) to protect your packs and your hands.
After installation, I wiped the seal with "303" to protect the rubber. I have never seen a trace of leakage, maybe the 303 helps seal the seal--?
