Gregory,
Both species will readily take a fly, if done properly. The techniques and fly patterns are rather specific and general trout or sea-run cutthroat fly methods will not likely be effective. Generally speaking, for the fall migrations you need sinking lines and very bright flies. The book "The Estuary Flyfisher" by Steve Raymond covers this subject very well. You can get better information in this book than several years of trial and error.
Hope this helps,
Ted
: Greetings Dave. Do you know if the coho or pinks can be successfully pursued
: with a fly rod. I know there is a lot of salt-water fly fishing for
: sea-run cutthroat, but I'm not sure if the salmon can be similarly had.
