what both those guys said,,a tiny hole to equalize pressure,,,which is a good idea to reduce vapor pressure anyway with a hot kayak in transit or storage and a wet compartment as it will reduce somewhat the ability of water vaport to find a way into the wood through areas where the epoxy is thin or has pinholes. And a strap/tether that is connected to the exterior buckles, pop the hatch straps and pull the strap, open sezamee.
