Hey Malcolm,
Actually, food warmed or cooked on the exhaust manifold has been done by more than one. I operated heavy equipment for many years and a D7 caterpillar has the prefect place to set a can of soup on the manifold between the fuel lines. You can even continue clearing land while it warms up. Warn soup for dinner on a long, cold winter day works for me. Just don't leave it too long or you'll have soup all over the motor! Yea, I know. Some would say a thermos would work just as well but since it wasn't fresh soup, I figured at least it could be "fresh warmed".
