: Hi, everyone.

: I don't know if this is the appropriate way to introduce myself, but I'm a
: canoeist (sp). I also am interested in making canoes. I've made two so
: far, but have not been satisfied with the results. I'm interested in some
: "free" plans on making a strip canoe with ribbed design that's
: 15-16' long, with tall bow and stern. Should be about 30'??, should read 30" ?? at the beam.
: Also, how do I read any responses to this post? Need help.

Hi Tom
I think David Hazen's book "The Strippers Guide to Canoe-Building" has a set of plans with different sizes given... but haven't looked at it for a while.

While not plans per-say, Ted Moores book "CanoeCraft" has offsets for several different styles of canoe. I believe they are ribbed canoes, or at least have some in there.

While not exactly free, you DO get a lot of helpful info from either book and the designer gets a little kickback for his ability to design what we want, but can't do ourselves. Not a bad thing..! They are both worth a good afternoons reading as well.

There may be others, so hang on till someone that's in the know can help you a little more.

By the way, what sort of problems did you have with previous works?
Both books lay out building techniques fairly well and Moores shows how to loft from his numbers in order to get out your forms.

As for reading the responses, you just come back and if you see somebody has responded below your post, just click on that blue heading and open it.

Or, at the bottom of the Post Message box you filled out there was a box for the purpost of getting notified of any responses by email, then you just click on the URL given and it brings you back here to that response.. but if you didn't see that and click it when you posted.. it's too late... Responses, however will still be attached below your post... just click and read.

Good Luck,

Rehd
