Looks great! I look forward to seeing it in person. I'm not a real FLW fan either, but I like the contrast of the flowing boat lines with the strict right angles in the pattern. I can see a lot of fun to be had with this kind of patterning. A Mondrian, Broadway Boogie Woogie, kayak could be quite entertaining.
BTW, since you have now announced that finishing by the Rendezvous is your intention, you have no acceptable excuse for falling short.
