Well folks, I guess its finally progressed to the point where I can say it will float! That is after the outside seams cure anyway. A couple of fill coats on the seam, one final sanding over the entire boat, one final fill coat, do the end pours, install the bulkheads, install the seat and footrest, install the deck lines, go paddling. MAN . . paddling still seem to be a long way off!!
I'm behind schedule or ahead of schedule depending on how I want to look at it. I'm two months behind on my ORIGINAL schedule or two days ahead on the latest REVISED schedule. Oh well, as long as it gets done!
I did both outside seams today - one layer of 3" wide 9oz tape followed by one layer of 1 1/2" wide 9oz tape. (same thing on the inside) I'm sure glad this part is done, although it wasn't too bad.
One thing I did do different this time though . . I used clear packing tape(the kind used to seal cardboard boxes) for most of the taping when I put the two halves together. It worked great! After the inside seams set for a few days, I went out and removed all the tape in about 20 minutes with very little adhesive residue left on the boat. Then a quick wipe down with acetone. Job done!!! Sure beat the packing tape with those re-enforcing strands that I used on my wifes yak . . thought I'd never get all that mess off.
Anyway, its coming along. Here's a pic of where it stands now.
Happy Building.
Charles.
