Hi, Lou-
I hand-sand between coats, tack clothing up the mess after each sanding. Sand the first two coats with 220, next with 320, subsequent coats (depending on my patience, or how badly I've mangled the prior coat) with 400. I've had good luck with Z-spar, both Capt and Flagship. Flagship has a bit more color than Capt. I thin 5-10%, FWIW.
Hope this helps-have fun, and please post pics when you're done! MIke
: I've just applied the first coat of varnish to my Night Heron. I'm curious
: about how folks prep between coats. Is full sanding necessary if the
: previous coat is pretty smooth? Is sanding for "tooth" necessary
: beyond just taking down high spots, specks, etc? Would love to hear even
: if its "bad" news! By the way, I'm using Z-Spar. Thanks.
