Suggest you search this archive for bungee connecting, there is a lot of good info available.

Epoxy and varnish are different animals and have different rules. Epoxy will bond chemically if reapplied within 72 hours, (i.e. before it cures). After that you will need to scratch up the surface so you get a mechanical bond. With varnish there is no chemical bonding, the surface needs to be lightly sanded between each coat.

I wouldn't worry though about having varnished without sanding, in a year or two when you go to re-varnish just sand a bit farther and apply more coats.

Sikkens is a good name brand and has been around a long time, I think it is Dutch. If it dries in a reasonable time and doesn't fish-eye it is probably compatible with the epoxy and OK, but you could check with the epoxy manufacturer.

: Bungee Connecting

: How do people connect the two ends of their bungees to make a loop? I’ve
: looked on Newfound and CLC boats, which have kits and many separate pieces
: but I can’t determine what (if anything there) is supposed to be used for
: bungee clipping/attaching.
: Also, as a follow up to the previous post: I am also varnishing my Night
: Heron and I’ve not been sanding between coats, but I believe they were
: close enough together that it wasn’t necessary (first coat had skinned
: over but was likely only 50% cured). I ordered my varnish, epoxy, and
: fibreglass cloth all from a local boat-restoration guy a long time ago and
: didn’t realize what varnish I had until I got to that stage last weekend.
: Anyone heard of Sikkens Yachtpaints? There’s 4 languages on the cans but
: none are english, and with my limited spanish I could make out something
: about thinning, a few different %’s mentioned, and something to do with
: how many hours – no help. Their website is down and they haven’t got back
: my inquiry. If anyone has used this and knows the details of the
: instructions please fill me in. I’m already 3 ½ coats into this, so it’s
: probably too late if I’m doing something wrong. It seems to look pretty
: good though. I'll update with pics someday soon.

: thanks in advance,
: James
