I hope it is not too late to add my $0.02. I would also like to add Putz to the list with his "Wood and Canvas Kayak" book. I have his and Morris's, therefore I can't comment on the other author's mentioned. All I can say is based on reading posts here and on the Baidarka email list, there seems to be two basic building methods. One is traditional, like Morris's, which utilizes steam bent ribs and the frame is held together by using lashings. The other basic method is, for lack of a better term, mid-20th century DIY'ers, which uses plywood or built up ribs and the frame is held to gether using the glue and screw (G&S) technique. Putz's design is based on this approach.

There are advantages and disadvantages to both methods and it seems that Morris's traditional method is preferred by most builders on this list and the Baidarka list. Which method you prefer is entirely your choice.

Good luck,
Paul

: Thanks to Chip, Malcolm, Jim, and Rehd for your input. I realize that there's
: no one single answer to a question like this and you guys have given me
: some things to think about. I should have been paying more attention to
: the SOF posts in the past, but being plagued with a one-track mind, I've
: tried to stick close to the stripper info while building my "L".
: Anyway, the L's abt done now so I'm starting to contemplate the next
: one.(looks like the yak building bug is starting to kick up his heels
: again already!) I guess I'll play catch-up on the SOF messages now, and .
: . see what Bob Kelim is up to. But, I think I'm going to have to take care
: of a couple of things on the honey-do list first.

: You guys have a good one and thanks again.

: Happy Building.

: Charles.
