You are quite correct, but I live on an island where the speed limit is 35 mph, and I never drive more than 8 miles or so... or else I would be a boat! I live on a

You can't see it in the picture, but the straps run through deck rigging that is through-bolted to the hull, and if the kayak slid forward or backwards it would only go a few inches either direction.

As for stress on the hull, you have a point. I probably need to find a better way to tie it down. I was actually looking at some sort of roof rack system. Until then maybe I should move the tiedowns up and run them through the cab.
