One of the tricks I've learned when glueing velcro is the pile strip and the hook strips don't have to be the same size. I usually oversize the strip with the weakest connection so there will be a large surface area for glue contact, and then undersize the other so there won't be as much force required to separate the pieces. The velcro usually just stabilizes the seat anyway, your body weight will hold it in place once you're in. I'd put the hook strips in the boat so there's less to snag sand and grit and put the pile side on the seat. I also take out my seats, no matter how short the drive home.
