Most truck lines won't deal with home delivery. Have the buyer find a freight terminal close by, or a commercial loading dock willing to accept the crate for him. I had my kayaks delivered to work instead of home & cut the price in half.
As for the crate, make a box out of 1/2" plywood or chipboard with 2 x 2s in all the corners. put it together with drywall screws, not nails. Don't leave anything exposed or your kayak could be ruined. The inside of a semi trailer is a very dangerous place. Also, the crate will be dragged from trailer to dock and back again several times during the journey by people in a hurry who won't be as gentle as you would like. Some of the more fragile shipments that show up on our dock have cardbord "traffic cones" stapled to the top of the crate with "Do Not Stack" printed on them.
Good Luck
