Hmmm, I can't claim that the water here around San Diego is all that clean but I wonder why the difference. Maybe you paddle in really clean lakes and I paddle in a clean ocean. We've noticed that mold & slime only grow in our outrigger canoes when we rinse in fresh water and then don't bail them out. If we neglect to rinse after paddling in the ocean - no growies or smell. Of course the salt and sun will do serious long term damage but that combo has always prevented anything smelly. I've decided that I'll put up with stiff scratchy paddling clothes over the stink any day.
