In Response To: Soak in weak Boraxo solution, rinse and let dry *NM* (Paul G. Jacobson)

For a dry treatment you could just dust the garment with Boraxo (or some other brand of commercial borax, or sodium metaborate) and let it sit until you next used it.

Borax is a common ingredient in laundry detergent enhancers. By itself it is fairly inexpensive. You might as well buy a big box. It also works to flush out those stale, sealed areas on your boats.

Also used to kill and prevent mildew on canvas skinned S-O-F boats.

If you use borax, though, you want to be sure to rinse it all off before you put on the wetsuit. It is a strong alkali and you would want to avoid any irritation. Using a weak solution to soak the material leaves little residue, and a quick rinse should remove all traces.

Similarly you could dust your gear with baking soda. This absorbs smells, and is milder to your skin should any remain, but it is not as aggressive in killing the organisms that are creating the smells.

Hope this helps
