: Hello,
: I’m wondering what the best circumference dimension for my cockpit rim would
: be. I draw it out to my likings, small but I still can bring my knees back
: up. I’m planning to make the top ring out of 4 mm plywood, clued on to a
: build up, vertical wood strips. I made up a temporally ring to check the
: fit of spray covers. My friend has a medium and when we tried it out, it
: had a just slight lose fit. Now would be the time to make changes. I
: measured the outside cockpit rim’s circumference (the largest part) which
: came to be 78 ½”. The lip's width is going to be ¾”. What is a standard,
: medium spray skirt's dimensions? I prefer to use a standard spray skirt
: with a minimum of adjustment to make. Thanks again for any comments.

Hi Roland, from my experience (emailing sprayskirt distributors) there is no "standard". What is a "medium" for one manufacturer is a "large" for another one.
I find it easier to check cockpit dimensions from kayak manufacturers such as Boreal Design then check websites for a sprayskirt that fits the cockpit of the kayak selected. This way I can make the cockpit to fit a "standard" sprayskirt instead of having one made to fit.
However, some shops will made a sprayskirt to fit for a reasonable price. Just bring a cardboard template of the cockpit and they will make a skirt that fits just right.
