I am hesitant to bring this up, but I will to give you an idea, as to why people's attitudes are the way they are.

The previous flamer was very course, and started by giving hints at his techniques, but then held back on giving useful advise, and became very abusive of others on the board, including myself, when I was just asking for some opinions. I had not been hostile towards him at all. I used some of his techniques (multiple layers of light glass), and ended up with a slightly heavier kayak than one with a standard layup. I also had to do repairs on this kayak where the lighter glass wore through quickly, I have not had to do that on the standard layup kayaks.

Ted Henry did some tests, and found that the multiple light layers, were not as good as some other layups. Ted's post has been show to you earlier.

The problem with the previous flamer was that he was consistantly attacking people including the generous host of this board. You will not find these posts in the archives, the have been deleted, but trust me it did happen. I would e-mail you directly with some of the ways he has been abusive, but that would give his identity to others, who do not need to know. I do not wish to badmouth him by name, but there are still attacks of others by him out there on the Internet.

The previous flamer had complaints of someone here that he took to court, but the judge through them out.

In the end most of us began to feel very sorry for him as he must have a very sad life to have that much hostility in him.

He may build stong light beautiful kayaks, I don't know, I have never met him in person. I do know how he attacked me out of the blue. I have hoped that he might be getting better, as he seemed like he had a very miserable life.

We do not mention him by name at his and other's requests. Most of us have tried to put it behind us. I think it would be best if we do not talk too much about him. Many people were offended by the conflicts, and it would be best to not start them again.

I wish him the best, and hope that he can find happiness, without offending others.

Also you might get a better response if you follow the guidelins of the board. I realize that I am breaking guideline #1, by not talking much about kayak building, but guideline #2 is "No anonymous postings: include your name and email address". If you had posted an e-mail address, I would not have to put the explanation out there for people who have no need to know all of this, I would have e-mailed you directly.
