: I've wrapped my yak in black plastic and set it in the sun so the epoxy will
: "hurry up" and cure. The problem I'm experiencing is that it
: seems the older this epoxy gets - the slower it gets . . cause I know I
: did not mis-mix the last several batches! And they were done on different
: days. I measure in graduated cups when I mix.
: my question is: the epoxy is just barely tacky to the touch after 3 days. The
: temp had been in the 90's. How long do I need to leave it in the sun.
: (Florida)?I put a candy thermometer inside and it is abt 120*F now.
: (inside the boat)
: I need to get it cured so I can do my final sanding on the exterior, then
: apply the final fill coat before I leave for Baltimore Tuesday morning.
: That way it will be ready for the water when I get back home.
: Nick (I think) posted a pic of this "cooker" that he used to speed
: up the cure. The seams are the only part that is not fully cured, but I
: don't want to sand partially cured epoxy . . I've been that route but
: never again!
: Any ideas - any body that uses this method? TIA.
: Charles.
If you are sure, I MEAN, sure you didn't mix incorrectly I'd contact your epoxy
maker and ask them about this "cooker" idea. In Florida you may be doing a lot
more cooking than Nick is doing in Connecticut.
The heat may be keeping the resin soft.
