: I finished my boat in time for Memorial Day this year. Over the last few
: weeks, I've noticed that my formerly smooth surface has started to show a
: hint of weave pattern. Just very slight, you have to catch it with edge
: back lighting to notice. No one but me (and you folks) would ever notice.
: And it's not everywhere yet, just where the fill coats were thinner.
: Ok, no big deal. Once the season is past, I'll sand, skim with epoxy and
: revarnish. Or? Varnish doesn't cover much, but maybe a light sand and skim
: of the existing varnish base (4 coats of helmsman) will do?
: Finally, if I'm reapplying epoxy, how perfect do I need to be in removing the
: varnish? My epoxy build was thin in several places, and I want to be as
: tender with the sander as I can.
: Thanks,
Dan,
The print-through should disappear when you put a new coat of varnish on. If you already have glass and a couple of fill coats, there should be no need for more epoxy.
You're right - nobody else will notice. If someone does point it out, take Paul's advice: thank them, then charge $5 for each additional imperfection they can find.
