: I do recall coming across posts to this BB referring to the flamer who's name
: we do not speak, when I was going through the archives. Could you please
: allude to those of us fairly new to this BB what are his techniques? From
: what I've been following on this BB, most of the posts about strip and S&G
: kayakbuilding is fairly generic and most of the info. is already out there
: in books, magazine articles, etc. Some fine tuning of technique advice is
: about all that is "new" that is posted here. Unless the unnamed
: flamer invented strip or S&G kayak building, I do not see how anyone could
: be using his ideas and not giving credit to him. But then I plead
: ingnorance to his special techniques. Please elaborate.
The person to whom I think you're referring had some interesting ideas about strip thickness and sequence and weight of glass layups. interesting, but nothing particularly earth shaking, as I recall. He was, in my opinion, an intellectual miser - quick to point out that he had a better way to do things, but unwilling to divulge any details. There is an old Roman saying that states, "The miser does no one any good, but treats himself worst of all." I imagine that Nick, Rob, Jay, Joe, Vaclav and others in the business have probably benefited more through the unselfish sharing of their professional expertise on this board than if they had adopted a "no money - no advice" policy.
So, the short answer - you're not missing anything.
