I was on the net searching for strips for a Guillemot I am currently making. I ran accross a company called Classic Boat Kits in Canada. Their prices for b/c cedar strips look very good. They mill what they call parallel strips which I suppose most people are using. They also mill what they call a "Classic" strip. Their website explains the classic strip:
"Other manufacturers mill strips from parallel 1/4" x 3/4" strips and then mill a bead and cove on to this. When sanding the hull, you will sand mostly at the glue joint which in turn reduces the thickness and strength of the hull. You will also be sanding glue at the joint requiring more sandpaper and time. However, the "Classic Strip" is manufactured in such a way that they are slightly thicker in the center. When sanding your hull, you will notice that you are sanding more of the center of the strip which is free of glue. This saves sandpaper and time and leaves a slightly thicker strip - which in turn increases the strength of your hull. All coves are generous in depth allowing for positive interlocking."
Has anyone used these or have an opinion about them. The price difference between the two types is minor. I plan to order from them in the near future, I am just not sure which type of strip to get. Thanks.
