In Response To: S&G: wood for coaming lip (Tony W.)
: I have been planning on using ash for my coaming lip but have not been able
: to find any at my local Home Depot or Lowes. Is poplar or oak a good
: alternative to ash? I am not concerned with looks only if it can be cut
: into the strips necessary to build up the lip and if it is bendable
: without a special setup (steamer).
: Thanks,
: Tony
I used maple cut into thin strips. I laminated 9 strips with epoxy to make the coaming rim. I did'nt need to steam and had no broken strips. The pic posted earlier today shows the rim alittle.
