Skin-on-Frame: Sea Pups ('kidyaks') get started

Hey, gang. This'll be short, I'm tired. We started our group build of four 'Sea-Pup' (by Tom Yost) kayaks today. They'll be 19"wide, and a little over 14' long. Great progress today. I had already built the strongbacks, cut out templates for the frames, and gathered most of the materials. My son and I are behind on ours, because I'm spending so much time helping the other guys, but we're going to try to catch up tomorrow. Two of the boats have all the frames arranged on the strongbacks, and one of them has the stringers temporarily in place to line things up. If all goes well tomorrow, the frames should be pretty much done by the end of the day. Not sure yet how we'll do the foot braces. We'll have to spend some time drinking and watching the boys sand the frames, (just kidding) and then we'll coat them with water-based polyurethane. After that, it's on to the skinning. We'll be using 18 oz vinyl-laminated polyester from Mauritzon. $5/61"yd! The boys have done a lot of the cutting, fitting, and sanding, and we're all having a good time. I've been taking a lot of pics, but I'm pretty computer-illiterate and I need to go to bed. More tomorrow. Steve
