My hooks (Holly's Silver) are 1/8 baltic ply laminated to 1/14 thickness that span the width of the hatch. Like a beam reinforcing the hatch with a hook carved into each end of the beam. I have a nice fillet all around. The boat has been in hot sun with air temps in the 100's with no problems. From the few failures I've seen I think gluing end grain is to be avoided. It also might be wise to use a resin with a high(er) heat deflection temp.

: I lost a hook on the way to R2K1. I fixed it with methyl methacrylate.
: (2-part adhesive commonly used for fixing the polycarbonate Eddyline
: boats--and $3.00 a double tube in the WalMart paint department).

: The repair just popped last month--and it took the glass away with it--so was
: actually more of an underlying redwood delamination problem.

: I think we're all starting to learn more about the techniques, the benefits,
: and the problems (of not) postcuring.
