I concur with the theory that moisure
: is the culprit.

I used plastic hooks from WestMarine and marine goop to glue them to the lid. The hull attachments are the little plastic padeyes that came with my Pygmy (supposed to go on the deck? No way. I put them inside where you can't see them). They have managed to sit outside in the Central CA heat all summer with no problems (yet).
