Another Wisconsin noob here! Hiya Shaun!

I too am in Wisconsin and am looking to build my first boat. I'm on the east side however, a block from a perfect beach launch into Lake Michigan!

I've got canoe experience, but I've only ever had one paddle in a kayak. I am, however, dead set on getting one and having some fun. I'm a do-it-myself kinda guy and am pretty handy so I figure I've gotta build it myself to get max satisfaction out of the deal. I've got a deal with my girlfried that as soon as I pop the question and hand over the 2-months salary token of love I get a little engagement present for myself...and I've chosen a KAYAK!

I'm thinking that I'll be going with a Pygmy brand kit. I was hoping to get some advice on a model (particularly Pygmy brand) that is right for me. I'm exactly 6-feet tall (a little more leggy than most) and tip the scales at about 190-195 (hoping to bring that down a bit). I'm looking for a boat to mainly paddle along the Lake Michigan coast, but will undoubtedly be doing much practicing and paddling on some of the numerous inland lakes around here as well. An occasional river (lazy variety) paddle will be likely. Some storage room will be necessary for weekend (maybe longer) camping trips.

Any takers on throwing this noob some advice on a model?
