: Hi there, Sam.

: Well, I don't know... I did like the looks of my wooden dowel things, but
: they were a lot of bother to make, and then they had this sealing problem.

: So, if my interpretation of this thread is more-or-less on the mark, then I
: think a re-working is in order: I want an inexpensive, easy to make
: repeatedly, and simple system that has no sealing issues. And, of course,
: it has to do the job. So looks are not important right now.

: How about this?

: It's a 1/8" stainless rod bent into the shape shown. It sits in a bed of
: thickened epoxy all the way to the topside of the base part. On top of
: that is a 1" square of 5-oz. S-glass that was 'threaded' over the
: rod, so as to completely surround it.

: Think it'll work? Would a larger glass patch be an improvement? We won't know
: until tomorrow how much it'll hold.

: Cheers,

Hey Pete,

The hook looks pretty cool.

Use the largest bond area you can. This is one place where over-kill can provide a margin of safety with no real penalty. I'd guess that a 2 to 3 inch diameter patch would be good.

Something that coes to mind - lay-up the hooks on plastic sheet so you can trim the edges to a neat shape with scissors, then peel off the plastic and stick them in place. You probably already use/know that technique but others might not.

Cheers,
Sam
