Yo Tony
Understand that I have (almost) built two guillemot s&g kayaks and really don't know what I am doing. I am laying the foundations for building a guillemot expedition single and already I am distracted by skin on a skin on frame project after that ... I am loosing the plot: so many kayaks... so little time. must remain focused, must remain focused.
Any hoooos, Zimmerly in his artic kayaks web site:
http://www.arctickayaks.com/PDF/Zimmerly/Sea%20Kayaker%202001/18-4-14.pdf
uses 'kerfs' (saw cuts almost through - but not quite) to assist with sharp bends. I have never seen this suggested on the board and have never used it myself. However I did do something like this to assist me mould experimental planning strakes to my seagull racer (which I never actually fitted, but will someday). I think the technique might actually work on the coaming. However it is a bit coarse and I can't imagine anybody using the technique unless the process was really driving them nuts and they can live with the consequences. The kerfs might not actually be all that bad with a bit of dookie schmooze and covered with a spray skirt???
Just an idea. If you use it and it works, let me know
Cheers Pete
