As one who is living in the smoke, this site gets a daily viewing (along with news casts etc.) Currently I have a fire about 10 miles from me with the prevailing winds blowing my way. Compared to the 10,000 people on evacuation notice in Kelowna, that's not bad and compared to those who have lost their homes, there is nothing to complain about. Conditions are unbelievable -- no significant rain since the end of June and smoke thick enough that visibility is frequently less than two miles. Despite camp fire bans, forestry friends say they still find camp fires daily and people are still doing things like throwing cigarettes out windows. The incredible thing is that the whole area is not burning and that they are able to control most of the fires.
