: I would like to build a Folbot Aleut size SOF non folder. I am thinking
: 3/4" plywood frames and the clearest strip lumber I can find locally-
: seems to be 1 1/2"x 3/4 or 5/8" moulding strips at local home
: depot. What is your all opinion on using that for my stringers and keel ?
: I am 5'9", 170 #, since I'm 69 lighter is better. Just for
: recreational paddling.
: I welcome all input here or email.

That is along the idea of my plan (though I'll probably try to make it look more like the old Sporty). I like ClarkCraft's BK22 (15' x 30" beam) and will probably build it. An alternative design is the King Canvasback from Mechanix Illustrated. My dad and I built two along similar plans back when I was in HS, which was the original Canvasback meant for pre-teen/early teen kids. We scaled ours up to 14' long, can't remember the beam. They were fun to use, except we skinned them in fiberglass and made them so heavy that we did not use them more than a handful of times. The frames without the FG were very light and had we covered them in canvas I am sure they would have been much lighter and used more. Good luck.
