"Hey" folks.
I went to my local Home Depot yesterday to pick up some material for the hatch gaskets. The selection was very disappointing. They had some "specialty" stuff, but the only "general" stuff they had was a low density foam in two sizes - one really small and one really large. No high density foam at all. Also, the packaging said it was for "wind and dust" but didn't mention moisture at all.
So anyway, before I go out on the hunt, I have a couple questions. I'm building the flush hatches that so many of you have built. What type, size, density, material etc. are you using for the gaskets?
Also, if I understand this correctly, you use a thickness 1/2 the size of the gasket material to act as the form for the gasket channel, right? Seems to me that when you weigh it down with the bag-o-sand, it would compress to virtually nothing, but you folks have said it won't, so I'll go on faith that it will be alright.
Thanks,
Rick
