: JJ - Read your post yesterday, and the responses. Same problem here, I built
: a Guilly, wife liked it, I paddle my old Carolina. Anyway, she had the
: same tracking problem, loves the boat, can't keep it on course. I read the
: 'skeg' post by a responder, made an 18" x 1/4" skeg last night,
: hot glued it to the keel about 18" from the stern. She took it out
: today and it's a different boat... tracks like a train. I'm going to try
: setting it aft as much as possible, test again, then make a permanent one
: to glass on. Give it a try, it won't hurt the boat, the hot glue lasts
: about two hours in the water before it peels off. I just finished the fill
: coat on the hull of a Great Auk, we'll see who gets what when that goes in
: the water.....

JW,
I just finished the hull on my first guillemot and it really has a pronounced skeg/pinched keel for the last 2 feet. I used 5/8 strips and a heat gun so I had good results keeping the strips on the forms in that area. I am wondering if folks are having a hard time making that designed skeg portion? If not (I thought it was kinda hard)does everyone find the boat still needs more skeg? And if adding more skeg does that kill the boats ability to be more playful/manueverable in waves?
