Although it has a resemblance to a flat-backed wood/canvas canoe it's not. If it was a w/c canoe the ribs would have be about 2.5 inches wide to accept all the copper tacks that hold a w/c together.
On this boat the hull planking must be fairly substantial because the ribs are minimal. It's just that they used painted canvas instead of caulking.
What it does resemble is a "whitehall" rowboat.
If it needs new canvas better get the book by Stelmok/Thurlow because the technique and tools are the same as a w/c canoe.
