After joining a local multihull racing club I’ve decided to go ahead and bump the height of SWIFTWOOD’s rig.

After a lot of discussion over on the WoodenBoat forum, I’ve decided This will be a gaff rig rather than a batwing, as much as I love batwings, it would just weigh too much in the taller form. Also the short dutch wingsails, ala James Wharram, are much more efficient.

I’ve also decided to overlap all the sails, much better for going to windward, and it eliminates the boom over my head!

Just double checking my #'s, with people who have been doing this longer than I have, namely you.

This is a schooner rig, both masts will have stays, but no diamonds. The sails will have full sleeve luffs, only the mainsail will have a boom, like the picture below, but only a single jib. Both the foresail and jib (genoa) will overlap.

Gaff 7ft long, set at 30 degrees.
Boom 8ft long
Luff 17ft
This is a high aspect ratio rig.
The jib will be 8ft by 20ft, roller reefed.
The bridle for the stays will run out to the floats, its a trimaran, that's 20ft wide.
The boat's only 300lbs, plus my 215lb butt.
In case you wondering, I'll be hiking out when the sails are all the way up, mostly in light winds.

I plan to use glass covered spruce for all the spars. Right now I'm showing 3in diameter for the untapered masts, and 2in diameter for the boom and gaffs.
