Strip: flush hatch lay up question

I just finshed the fiberglass hatch lips, i used 6 layers of raka 5.5 0z cloth.
After it was done it was about 1/16 thick and rather flemsee. Is that normal?
From what I read that is what most of you all use, I'm I wrong? Is that strong enough, or I'm I beging paranoid? Thanks for any comments!
