: Very nice designs. Are the paddle patterns stripped right into the boat, or
: is it solid cutouts or veneer? I'd like to add more graphics to my next
: boat, but it was a lot of work to strip the little that I did...especially
: with hardwood. Good work, keep plugging away and get it into the water.
The stripping was by far the hardest part for me. The inlays were put in after the areas were stripped. They are solid through. They are a lot easier to do than you would think. I cut the paddles out of walnut then steamed them so that they would lay over the contour of the deck. I then just traced around them and cut inside the lines. Well, it sounds simple. The stars took about 20 minutes each to install and the paddles didn't take over a couple of hours each. Tightbond and sand and you are there.
I read that when it comes to designs on kayaks that straight lines were for beginners (was that in Nick's book?). Well, I qualify so I wasn't worried about that. To be honest there are no strip boats down here in Orlando to compare it to so no matter what I did it would be a stand out. :-)
