Lauan is pretty porous stuff--I'd prefer to cover it with light glass if possible...or get a lot of epoxy on it--mix in a tiny bit of xylene or acetone in the first coat for good penetration---and apply it outdoors.
: ok, I know some people make whole boats out of Home Depot grade plywood, so
: I'm probably overly concerned. My question is, is there any quality issue
: with cutting a bulkhead from this material? More water damage if the epoxy
: is penetrated, less strength? I want to move the bow bulkhead aft several
: inches to cut down on flooded volume and possibly use it as a foot rest.
: The Pygmy-supplied precut is too small to move aft. I think they will send
: an oversize one, and I don't think the cost is much, I'd just rather cut
: it and get it in now if there is NO downside- otherwise, I'll wait for the
: right stuff.
: Thanks for any advice.
