YES. Last summer I had 5 stitches from a chisel in the palm of my hand, just below the thumb. No permanent damage but it could have been worse. For just a moment, I got stupid, but just a moment is all it takes.

BTW, I can vouch for the "scary sharp" system. That chisel was just freshly sharpened.
