We started make progress when we stopped trying to make the large time slots to work. I would get one or two on before going to work in the morning, very zen. Tea and a strip down at 5:30 sunrise,ahh masters you have let me see a bit of the light:)
People who do not fear and repect sharps tool in wood working are the ones with fewer fingers. It's that zen thing with be one with that screeming saw is easy because it demands attention but sharp blade is quiet stealth, but with the same attention gives great statisfaction. I have 3 power tools to put a edge on wood but the block plane is the best for stripping.
