Sorry, my last sentence was misleading. When epoxy is cured, there aren't many open molecules for anything--epoxy or polyester to bond to with a chemical bond. Still, epoxy is a much better adhesive than polyester, and will form a much stronger and more reliable mechanical bond with the same roughed-up substrate.
