Cheaper than okoume, but more reliable than lauan is fir marine plywood.

: I would strongly advise glassing luan inside and out. The inner plies can be
: questionable even if there are no voids. Also the glue is questionable in
: some batches. Glass will make the quality of the wood much less important.
: If you are going for really light weight, seal the inside with several
