Some of what I'd read suggested that I might run into problems wetting out the cloth if I didn't do a fill coat so I used a fill coat. Other than costing a day per surface I think it was a good idea - I'd do it again - if nothing else, it gives you an idea of what it'll be like to work with epoxy before you've got the fiberglass draped over your hull.
