: Hi everyone. I am currently attempting to build a Guillemot Double Kayak and
: am having a bit of trouble aligning the forms. I have aligned forms 1
: through 11 and those are nearly perfect.(By the way, do the forms have to
: be absolutely perfect? How much + or - should I be worried about?)
: However, The aft forms are not moving in to place. Should I cut out the
: strongback hole more, make it bigger? Seems to me this is very hard to
: do...can't wait to get past this point. Thanks for your time.

Hi Paul... I am just finishing my first baot and it is also a guillemot double with one large open cockpit. It sounds like you did the strongback as a boxbeam. I tried that and it was a lot of work and still warped. I moved to a 2x4. I had to secure 2 of them end to end with fastener plates but it worked good. I then snapped a chalkline down the length. That way I had an automatic centerline to reference. All of my forms sat on the sheer line and though tthey needed to be adjusted it all lined up well.

I am going to stick with the 2x4 strongback because everything lined up well and With the extra space around the 2x4 I had plenty of room to move the forms to adjust them...
