: I am looking for outrigger canoe plans. NOT to build some sort of stable
: platform for fishing or sailing, but to build a genuine outrigger canoe of
: the sort that one races and paddles with a single blade paddle.
: I have done a search of the net and on these forums. No luck.

: It seems that with the stability and seaworthiness of outrigger canoes that
: someone would have adapted a nice kayak to such a purpose.

:You would think that wouldn't you! I looked for the longest time for such a triyak but couldn't find one. I designed a 1 and 2 man triyak for fishing because I needed a outrigger kayak setup that would allow me to stand up, pushpole, row and sail. But I also needed a fast attack fishing kayak. You could adapt a surf ski and build outriggers for them, but you still don't get an "open style" cockpit (self bailing) that you can move around in. The Tribalance comes close but still has a hole to stand in and its made of plastic(quaranteed to slow down after the hull gets scraped up). Try Easy Rider kayaks. They have outrigger setups that you can add on. I'm using Kevlar and vinylester resin on my boat.Don't have to worry about damage or hull getting slow because of plastic burrs. The outriggers are the hard part. I designed a 3-axis adjustable wing setup to put the pontoons deeper or shallower as needed and move forward and backward for sailing or pushpoling, and in and out so I can put a rowing seat and wingers on. (modular boat for addition of sails, rowing setup or 2 seats, or you can just plain paddle)I combined a sprint hull with a flat deck cockpit that will give me additional flotation towards the stern when I move back to pushpole. Sometimes you have to make stuff yourself if you want it bad enough!
