: it was with much anticipation that I finally got to the point of placing the
: first ribs in my West Greenland SOF. Much trial and error with rib lengths
: and thicknesses etc. After all of the horror stories, from others, of
: split ribs etc it was with much anticipation that I placed the first three
: ribs this evening. Ah it feels so good. They all went in like they were
: supposed to. The shape looked right. Not one broke. May end up replacing
: one because it doesn't look as good as it could, we'll see. But the sense
: of accomplishment and satisfaction feels great none the less.
: was fortunate to luck into some green "red Oak", which bent
: wonderfully. Abit of a challenge ripping the boards into slats on my band
: saw. Took a while to figure out how to get continually uniform thickness,
: but it finally worked out after a few false starts.
: It is a toss up which is harder to build. S&G is clearly the easiest. With a
: stripper it is hard to get nice clean tight joints, but with a SOF it is
: really a challenge getting clean joints on the mortise and tenon joints
: with those compound angles between deck beams and gunnels. Certainly the
: SOF has given me the most challenges and the most satisfaction once you
: over come them.
: This is a great hobby.
: Feels good, just had to share.
: No one else would really understand, except the people on this board...

yesterday 3 out of 3 ribs went in successfully
well today...
my batting average was only 2 out of 9
back to the drawing board....
